Amanda & Matt
Posted on November 1, 2007
Amanda is an amazing artist. She chose a vintage theme for her wedding and all the details perfectly matched up to expectation. It was just a big laugh photographing the girls’ preparation and of course it’s always nice to walk in to a bride’s house that is nicely decorated. This wedding reminds me just why I love my job. Sharing the fun with couples in the most important day of their lives. Thanks Jenny for tagging me along to second shoot at Amanda & Matt’s wedding.
I decided to add a bit of the vintage touch to my photos.

Amanda with her very artistic eyes decided to do the makeup and hair of the entire bridal party:

Amanda doing her own hair (this photo reminds me of some 1940s film):

Of course, we needed the vintage portrait of the bride

Classic!

They also had the vintage bridal cars which was really cool.

The ceremony was held at the Garrison Church.

We walked around the Rocks for some classic old backdrops for location shots

Another 1940s film scene..

I’m definitely not a fan of smoking but this is just too cool to miss

My favourite last photo..

Thank you Amanda & Matt for letting me be a part of your big day and congratulations!

Album design
Posted on May 1, 2007
If you’ve been shopping for wedding photographers, you must’ve seen some of the digital albums around. I really love the versatility of digital albums. They can be as simple and elegant as you want or they can be colourful and loud to bring out the excitement of the wedding day.
I’m in the middle of designing an album and I really like this simple two-page spread with the very subtle text - just have to post it.

Alyssia
Posted on April 23, 2007
I don’t normally do fashion shoots, but I had this opportunity to help Alyssia, an aspiring model who has all the right mindset to succeed, to build a portfolio. It was a really fun photo session and I tried a few new techniques.
All photos were shot at my studio with one softbox and natural light.

Cameras
Posted on April 21, 2007
Recently I’ve been getting a lot emails from other photographers asking me what camera gears I use for weddings. These emails really got me thinking - does it really matter?
I have come across many photographers who have invested thousands of dollars in camera gears and still not getting any decend pictures and I know probably just as many photographers who owns no more than a $500 point-and-shoot camera and produce exception results.
A lot of photographers believe they have to spend big to get better. The fact is, experience with their cameras will help them become better photographers. A camera is simply a tool and what is important is who’s behind this tool.
A good example is the world class photographer Alex Majoli who is famous for shooting with an Olympus point and shoot camera. He produces some of the finest award-winning photos ever and yet, the key for Majoli to getting those world class captures was to learn when to press the buttom, knowing that his p&s camera will only take the photo after a second or so delay.
As a wedding photographer, it’s even more important to learn and understand how the gears would behave under different situations. And I think that is the key to getting that very photo you want each and every time.
Just for the record, I use my trustworthy Canon 5D and I can shoot an entire wedding with a 50mm f1.8 lens.

(blog)red - how you can help
Posted on March 25, 2007
A couple of weeks ago, I was asked to attend the Converse RED product launch party in Sydney as one of the photographers. It really got me thinking!! It is such a good cause and yet received so little support in Australia. If you are not familiar with the (RED) charity initiative, this is a champaign to help AIDS and HIV infected people in Africa by purchasing products with (RED) label. You can read more here. With six brands which have signed up to the campaign, only two products are currently on sale in Australia.
I have decided to do my little bit to promote (RED) and I hope that the fortunate readers of this blog can do their part to help out by reaching out to (RED) products. I will keep this (RED) logo on my blog to show my support. Stay tuned for more, I’ll be launching something soon.

Boudoir
Posted on March 4, 2007
Occasionally, some brides would like me to shoot a Boudoir session as a gift to their husbands on their wedding day or anniversary and let me tell you, it is so much fun. Usually, brides will get an album of the photos and give it to the groom on the wedding day and the reactions are - priceless.
Today, I had the opportunity to do Boudoir session for Claire which I will be shooting her wedding later this month. She’s such a sweet girl and I just loved the session shoot with a lot of assistance from her girl friends.

For those interested, an on-location shoot is $700 which includes an album.
