Helen and David - Wedding

Posted on July 16, 2009

Helen and David decided to have their small and intimate wedding held at the Garden Terrance at Pyrmont which was just wonderful. I love small weddings as everyone can be so relax, including Helen and David. I’ve posted a couple of my favourites on the day:

I really love the styling of the wedding:

Emma and Tristan - Wedding

Posted on June 27, 2009

8:36pm lazing about on my couch, flicking through a 2006 French issue of Vogue - absent minded, I suddenly came across this picture of a couple styled with a touch of vintage that really caught my attention. This neo-romantic setting with the couple sitting in the middle of a secret garden posed in their vintage outfit that is unlike any other editorial photos I’ve seen. I stared at the photo for a good 15 minutes and still couldn’t figure out why it is that I like it so much.

Was it the beauty of the secret garden and the styling that went with it? Was it the gorgeous looking couple that grace through the frame? Or was it the soft lights that shine through from infinity and beyond?

Then I realised one thing: They actually look and feel like they were in love - something that you rarely see in a fashion magazine but more often come across when sifting through photos after sharing the intimate moments with all my wonderful the brides and grooms – the rewards of being a wedding photographer.

I get lots of emails from other photographers asking about my style of photography and how I direct my couples to pose in such a natural way. And just like the picture I came across in the Vogue, the secret ingredient to such graceful photos is not from my directions, but the true love and affection that the couples express in front of the camera. I let them be their true selves in their own personal space absent from all the guests and even the bridal party.

These moments are witnessed and captured only by myself and unseen by any other wedding guests.

Here’s an example from Saturday’s wedding at Centennial Vineyards, Bowral. I loooove this photo not because of the beautiful sunset we had, and not because of the spectacular setting at the vineyards, but because of the love and raw moments that is on display by Emma and Tristan. Emma and Tristan are like 2 love birds that I very much enjoy watching (and photographing!).

More photos to come soon… stay tuned.

Nic & Chris - Destination Wedding

Posted on May 20, 2009

This destination wedding has people flown thousands of kilometers from all over the world, including myself. I am still in the middle of my European trip and decided to fly all the way back to Australia to capture this very special wedding near Jervis Bay. Nic & Chris lives in London but wanted to have the wedding in a special location where they both shared memorable times together.

I love destination weddings. Guests enjoy themselves so much more when they are away from the big smoke - they go a little crazy.

This wedding was beautifully put together by Jen from As a Whisper.

We started at Nic’s parents for getting ready shots:

Nic looks absolutely gorgeous. I got this photo just before we headed out to the wedding and it started to rain.

And of course, let’s not forget the good looking groom.

Great capture by Jenny.

I just love all the details in this wedding. Nic & Chris has really cool styling.

Another great capture by Jenny.

A big thank you to Jenny for shooting with me.

Bride in colour

Posted on May 13, 2009

When Marianne showed me her styling for her big day a few weeks ago, I was completely sold to the idea. A touch of vintage, a splash of colour, a lot of music, mixed with a grain of silliness. I knew straight away it’s going to be an amazing wedding. Marianne is a true artist and opted to try something a little different. Bride in colour. I’ve photographed tons of wedding stuff but bride in colour is certainly a first.

Marianne’s colourful styling has added a bit of spark to the otherwise wet and dull weather.

Getting ready: Sister’s vintage decorated terrace house in Paddington
Shoes: Anne Klein
Ceremony: St Frances Xavier Church, Lavendar Bay
Location: Lavendar Bay
Reception: Mandalay

Here’s another quick sneak peek for now.

Marianne.

Off to another shoot now - it’s been an insanely busy wedding season - do stay tuned for more.

Sandy & Ronnie - Wedding

Posted on May 3, 2009

I’m so delighted to have the opportunity to shoot this wedding for the beautiful Sandy and Ronnie on Saturday. The wedding was absolutely fabulous and shooting with one of the most gifted and generous photographer I know, Jenny has always been so much fun. We started early in the morning with blue sky and great weather. A perfect wedding day under perfect condition can only be matched with a perfect location. We started our session straight after the lovely ceremony at Bicentennial Park.

Here’s some of my favourites of the day.

Jenny’s classic ring shot:

Wasn’t it a perfect day for a wedding:

Madeleine & Patrick - Destination Wedding

Posted on July 1, 2008

When Madeleine and Patrick asked me to photograph their wedding in the nice small town of Tübingen in Germany, I knew I would have a great time. As it turns out, it was the most enjoyable wedding I’ve ever been to. The guests were incredibly nice to me and everyone went out of their way make sure to make sure I had a good time. People came from all over Europe to this wedding.

It’s always fun photographing weddings outside of Sydney. Here’s a few shots of my take on Tübingen:

The preparation was just so much fun…

Dress was designed by the famous SiÖdam Couture:

I love this photo for some reason. Maybe it’s the very sentimental gift that Madeleine was wearing:

Madeleine lives just right next to a farm house so we decided to pay a visit before we went off to the church.

Although the ceremony was held in Dutch and German and that I understood none of it, it was still very touching for me, and Madeleine & Patrick were so sweet during the ceremony:

Tübingen resides a number of famous Germans including Pope Benedict XVI. We managed to get access to the garden where poet Friedrich Hölderlin once lived in.

We had a little too much time and the girls decided to do some girly things - shopping for chocolate:

We then realised that we were running a little late to the reception:

“Private function, sorry for the inconvenience” (how German is this):

I’ve always wanted to try the idea of a photo booth at weddings. Particularly after a few drinks, people do get a little crazy. Patrick suggested a little fun with a photo frame.

A big thank you for Anne-Marie for looking after me throughout the wedding.

Wedding details

Posted on June 11, 2008

I LOVE being a wedding photographer and everytime I book a new wedding, I get so excited at the thought of what I’m going to be getting to shoot, and being at a wedding is like getting to discover tiny treasures all over the place! When I look through the photos after I come home, I like to take my time, sifting through them for the gems, the shining moments that a couple is going to treasure, and show their children. Every wedding is unique and it’s all the little details that tell them apart. Even if yours is a relaxed and causal one, you should make every detail tell the story.

As a photographer, I’m always amazed by how my brides pay so much attention to all the details to make their wedding as unique and personable as possible. I had the pleasure of being at Aivee and Pete’s wedding. But before I show you all the joy and excitement on the day, I want to show you the amazing details put together by Alicia and her team at Form over Function. Alicia certainly has an eye for detail and she uniquely put together a theme that is just so Aivee and Pete.

Here’s some simple and amazing details:

All the fabulous brides out there remember the devil is in the details.

Aivee and Pete - Engagement session

Posted on May 3, 2008

Before Aivee and Pete’s wedding next week, we decided to do a quick engagement session at a location that means so much to Pete. It’s where Pete grew up and the good thing was it’s only a 5min walk for me. Thanks guys. I really look forward to your wedding next Saturday.

Here’s just a few of my favourite on the day:

And finally Pete at his childhood hangout.

Cate and Cameron - Part II

Posted on April 6, 2008

Just before I pack away my laptop, I really wanted to share another teaser from Cate and Cameron’s wedding. I have always been fascinated by modern interior design and always wanted to photograph architectural designs just for fun.

So what’s better than combining interior design with wedding photography:

It has been an extremely busy week. I’m glad that I got to photograph Cate and Cameron’s wedding. It was just so touching.

I’ll post more photos later but for now, let me leave you with my favourite moment of the day. This was during the ceremony.

I really need to start packing now for my European trip.
